An 18th-Century Delft Polychrome Plate with Floral Decoration | c.1775–1790

An 18th-Century Delft Polychrome Plate with Floral Decoration | c.1775–1790

A genuine antique Delft polychrome plate, hand-painted in the Netherlands during the late 18th century, circa 1775–1790. Decorated with a lively floral motif, the piece reflects the enduring influence of Asian porcelain on Dutch Delftware, interpreted here with a distinctly European hand.

Unmarked, as is often the case with earlier Delft pieces, the plate shows the confident, free brushwork typical of hand-painted ceramics of the period. The surface has developed a rich, natural patina over time — a visual record of more than two centuries of use and survival.

As expected with an object of this age, the plate shows notable wear and ageing. There is a large chip to the rim, clearly visible in the photographs, along with surface wear consistent with its history. These imperfections do not detract but rather underline the authenticity and honest character of the piece.
